Professional Statement
I enjoy working with individuals who are negotiating changes, difficulties, or losses in their lives and trying to understand their experience and symptoms. I believe it is up to each of us to discover meaning in our lives, and psychotherapy is often a valuable place to explore this in an open and non-judgmental way. It is often the turning points or changing phases of life that call us to question ourselves, confront us with important decisions, and challenge us to decide what is meaningful. Symptoms of depression and anxiety, or events such as illness, trauma and loss can call into question our beliefs, values and goals in life. This creates the opportunity to reorient ourselves and find new perspectives for living more authentically and fully. This orientation to psychotherapy can be called existential or humanistic. The common thread is our shared human experience of finding meaning, committing to our lives, being responsible for our decisions and learning to live in relationship to one another.
Education/Experience
I have more than twenty years of experience working with a diverse range of adults of many races and cultures, ages and genders, values and backgrounds, both in community mental health and private practice. My educational background includes theology and philosophy, art and art therapy, as well as clinical psychology.
Degrees/Certifications
- California Institute of Integral Studies, San Francisco - Psy.D.
