Dr. McKenzie has worked in private practice, as well as in academia as an adjunct professor for Illinois College, Blackburn College, University of Illinois at Springfield, and Lincoln Land Community College. Dr. McKenzie has worked as a consultant for the Illinois School for the Deaf, the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired, and several residential facilities for adults with developmental disability.

Dr. McKenzie earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from the Adler School of Professional Psychology. She has a bachelor's degree in Deaf Education and a master's degree in Counseling.
