Professional Statement

NOTE: I am not taking new clients at this time.

I am a licensed and board certified counseling psychologist. I completed my training at the University of North Dakota in 2011. Although I work with a wide variety of clinical concerns, my area of expertise is work with transgender and nonbinary people. I have written numerous articles, three books (the most recent is due out in June 2021), and I have trained hundreds of people in a variety of topics relevant to affirming care with trans and nonbinary people.

My approach to clinical work is varied (also known as integrative) and is driven by a client's clinical needs and my professional judgment. We will work together to develop a treatment plan that addresses your needs. I am skilled in the following approaches to counseling: humanism, multiculturalism, feminism, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), and trauma-informed approaches. I have worked with the following clinical concerns: depression, anxiety, substance abuse and process addictions, career, grief and loss, trauma, relationship issues, cultural issues, gender identity and sexual orientations, stress management, sleep, pain and other health concerns, and anger.

I take my work with you very seriously. In addition to maintaining confidentiality (within professional limits) I will also work to ensure that you have access to the kinds of resources that will help to address your needs. I have a strong background in providing telehealth services and have completed numerous training courses on the topic.
