Professional Statement
If you're anything like me, you've found 2020 to be a very challenging year. Regardless of how you got through it, you did, and now you are now at this place, at this time, and at a stage where you're ready to shape the inevitable forces of change to your advantage.
Some background - I am an experienced clinical psychologist licensed in New York state. I am a retired military officer, having spent 21 years in the Navy in such tropical paradises as Kuwait, Afghanistan, and a few submarines. In that time, I worked with active duty servicemembers, family members, and retirees. I was also afforded the opportunity to supervise and mentor some outstanding clinicians, as well as consult in various areas (for example, the impact of concussive events on servicemembers) at the national level. I also taught introduction to psychology for the University of Maryland. Since retiring from the Navy, I've worked in several settings including corrections, developmental disability, and the police, and I now serve as the Director of the Psychological Evaluation Section at the NYPD. In that time, I've also had a thriving private practice in the Hudson Valley of New York doing general clinical psychology as well as forensic consultation.
Your problems are serious, and I’m serious about them, but I like to infuse humor into this craziness we call life as appropriate. I leverage my training in health psychology to inform my thinking about what’s best for my clients from a holistic perspective. My basic style of therapy is cognitive-behavioral, but I have extensive training in other methods as well (e.g., trauma-based, hypnosis). In addition, I’m in an ICF-accredited training program for executive coaching, and this training adds to my existing toolbox.
Let’s talk and see if we can find some solutions together…
