Professional Statement
I have divided my time between private practice and academia for the past 35 years. I've found that my academic work expands and enhances my ability to practice psychotherapy, and my clinical work has informed my research and teaching.
I work in a practical, integrative manner, with all psychotherapy based on a warm, accepting and supportive relationship. Within that context, I attempt to develop an individualized approach to each person's needs, problems, strengths, and interests. The specific schools of psychotherapy that inform my work are Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Interpersonal Psychodynamic Therapy.
