Professional Statement

I specialize in helping individuals and couples heal from trauma, life transitions, and stressful life experiences. As an individual therapist, I am a firm believer in the body's innate ability to heal and work from a holistic approach, integrating mind, body, and behavior to promote mental and physical wellbeing. I have expertise in providing evidence-based treatments for trauma, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, and other conditions related to stress and life transitions. As a couples therapist, I use an emotion focused approach to help couples heal from attachment injuries, strengthen their friendship bond, and develop healthy ways of navigating through conflict. I have used video therapy for many years and find the modality to be as effective as in-person care. For more information on effectiveness of video therapy, see: https://www.liebertpub.com/doi/10.1089/tmj.2013.0075

Please note: If you are interested in working with me, please contact me for availability.

Education/Experience

I completed my undergraduate degree at University of California, Santa Cruz. I received my Ph.D. from Palo Alto University where my research focused upon providing innovative services for the prevention of chronic PTSD in recent trauma survivors. I worked with both civilian and military trauma survivors at various stages in their post-trauma recovery. I completed my predoctoral internship at the Bay Pines VA in Florida where I received extensive training in PTSD and co-occurring conditions including depression, addiction, insomnia, and chronic pain while working with veterans from all war eras in residential trauma and substance use programs and outpatient chronic pain and primary care clinics. I went on to complete my postdoctoral fellowship at the Salt Lake City VA in their outpatient PTSD clinic where I received speciality training in providing evidence-based treatments for PTSD, traumatic brain injury, and post-deployment readjustment for veterans and their family members. I worked for many years as a staff psychologist at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System in their outpatient PTSD clinic providing individual, couples, and group therapy to veterans from all eras experiencing PTSD and other co-occurring conditions related to either combat or civilian traumas.
