Professional Statement
Searching for skills to control your behavior and emotions? Do you think, "My mind won't stop." "Why can't I let go of things?", "What is wrong with me?"? If this resonates with you, I can help. I teach several skills that effectively deal with uncontrollable thoughts and feelings and help you develop the ability to control what you do and what you say so that you live more in alignment with who you truly are. Increasing your ability to be present is a key focus as this is how we change. Developing a deeper level of awareness creates a space where you have more control of yourself. Anyone can learn these valuable skills!
While supporting you through your challenges, I teach problem solving skills. This research based approach addresses a wide range of presenting problems. I use CBT combined with a mindful therapy called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). We are not taught these skills in school, so viewing therapy as a way to educate yourself is a helpful approach.
Asking for help can be hard. Having 20+ yrs as a licensed psychologist, I have learned that letting values instead of emotions guide our behavior leads to a more fulfilling life as well as minimizes suffering. Learning to be present and intentional with your actions creates a joyful and meaningful life that we all desire. Reach out if this is what you seek.
