Professional Statement

Research in psychotherapy effectiveness shows that the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors predicting helpfulness of therapy. I see my role as providing a supportive therapeutic space to foster growth, healing, and healthy relationships. It takes great courage to face our human vulnerabilities and for each person the journey is unique. Regardless of your reason for entering therapy, our work will be informed by who you are, what you value, and where you want your life to go.

I work with individuals and families across the lifespan (pregnancy to adulthood). I integrate evidence-based practices (including Cognitive-Behavioral, Family-Systems, Mindfulness Based, Psychodynamic, & Parent-Child therapies) with a person-centered and trauma-informed lens. In particular, I tend to work with daily stressors, anxiety, trauma, depression, parenting, relationships & family issues, & life transitions (career change, marriage, pregnancy, parenthood).

I am a licensed clinical psychologist working with individuals and families in California. I earned my Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin where my studies emphasized therapy with children and families, integrated behavioral health, bilingual and multicultural practices and trauma-informed care. My pre-doctoral internship was at Westcoast Children’s Clinic in Oakland, where I focused on trauma-informed child, adolescent, and family therapy. My post-doctoral training was at the UCSF Infant-Parent Program specializing in perinatal mental health, infant-parent psychotherapy, couples/co-parenting counseling, and early childhood mental health consultation. I am trained in cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, psychodynamic, solutions-focused and family systems therapy. I have experience working with adults, couples, adolescents, children, infants, and families. In addition to private practice, I have worked in a range of clinical settings, including community mental health, hospitals, schools, and integrated healthcare. My research interests and areas of publication include work on cultural values and mental health, trauma-informed care and teacher learning. My focus in private practice is geared toward individuals, couples and families preparing for a life transition (such as marriage, a new baby or a new career) as well as coping with loss, anxiety, depression, trauma, daily life stress or relationship difficulties.
