Professional Statement

Dr. Wardle has enjoyed over 40 years of private practice as a licensed psychologist in multiple states. Her clinical focus is on individual counseling of adolescents and adults, marital/family therapy and hypnotherapy. She works to assist clients in developing effective coping skills through challenging times in life. Diverse issues are addressed, such as life transition matters (marital, retirement, grief, decision making), anger management, habit disorders, anxiety, and depression.

Clinical hypnosis is a skill that Dr. Wardle has utilized extensively as appropriate in her practice for issues such as habit control (e.g. smoking cessation and weight management), ego strengthening, pain management, phobic disorders, stress relief and relaxation. Dr. Wardle has an Associate Degree in Culinary Arts (and advanced Continuing Education from the Culinary Institute of America) which compliments her counseling of individuals developing healthy body image and eating behaviors.

Education/Experience

Dr. Wardle holds two Masters degrees and a Ph.D. from Columbia University, where she was the recipient of a Fellowship by the National Institute of Mental Health. She is listed in the National Register of Health Service Psychologists and also possess the CPQ (the Certificate of Professional Qualification in Psychology), which is issued by the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards. She has been an Assistant Professor of Psychology and has taught undergraduates and graduate students at Barnard College, Russell Sage College, and the State University of NY. Her counseling skills in assisting couples and families were further enhanced by completing a Post-Doctoral program in Family Therapy from Georgetown University where she was a student of Dr. Murray Bowen.

In addition to being a licensed psychologist in three states (NY, CO, MA), Dr. Wardle holds permanent certification as a school psychologist in NY and NJ. Her clinical practice has spanned over 40 years of service to clients of all ages, working with individuals, couples, and families. She has worked both in urban and rural settings, and at one point was the only licensed psychologist in a 4 county area of New York State, fielding a wide variety of presenting issues.

There have been numerous opportunities for Dr. Wardle to serve in elected and appointed positions within state and regional professional organizations. She has given expert testimony to the NYS Legislature on behalf of NYS psychology associations; served as Past President of the Psychological Association of Northeastern NY; was Founding President of the Association of Psychologists in Independent Practice; and Recipient of the Distinguished Psychologist Award of the Psychological Association of Northeastern NY.

She has been an Approved Consultant with the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and was Founding President of the Clinical Hypnosis Association of Northeastern New York. She has worked with many clients to address habit disorders, including assisting more than 8,000 individual clients for smoking cessation through the use of clinical hypnosis.
