Professional Statement
Education/Experience
I graduated with honors from UC Berkeley with a BA in psychology in 1981, followed by a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage, Family and Child Therapy in 1983. I practiced as an MFT providing mental health services in Oakland and San Francisco, primarily working in the Latino community. I also worked with New Bridges, a program that worked with youth and adults on unlearning racism and other social oppression. Returning to graduate school in 1989 I earned a PhD in Clinical Psychology in 1996 with a dissertation that looked at the impact of dissociative tendency on the dream content of women. I trained in a San Francisco based Latino agency, as well as several LGBT agencies. My experiences also includes program management and teaching in graduate psychology programs. I am currently the Director of Behavioral Health in a program that provides clinical services in a primary care clinic.
